JAMAICA, Queens (PIX11) – An NYPD officer was shot in Jamaica, Queens Tuesday evening, police sources said.
The incident happened near Jamaica Avenue and 161st Street around 6:30 p.m., according to the FDNY.
The shooting happened after police officers approached a suspect wanted in connection with a robbery, according to sources.
The officer was shot in the leg and was taken to a hospital to undergo surgery, sources said.
The suspect was also shot and died at the scene, sources said.
Mayor Eric Adams will visit the officer in the hospital later in the evening, according to the mayor’s office.
Adams will join NYPD officials at a press conference around 9 p.m.
