The Guardian Angels are patrolling subway trains in Coney Island after a
early Sunday morning at the Stillwell Avenue station. The volunteer safety group is focusing on idle trains, where people often seek shelter from the cold. During their patrols, the Angels are encouraging riders to stay aware of their surroundings and offering assistance, like directing them to nearest shelters. “People don’t feel safe,” said Jose Gonzalez, the leader of Guardian Angels Brooklyn While making their rounds, they encountered several people unaware of the violent incident. Riders expressed safety concerns, not just for themselves but for everyone aboard the trains. “Yes, everybody human, right? Got to have a little love and affection,” one rider said. The Guardian Angels say their goal is to protect vulnerable people, including those sleeping on trains, and to create a safer environment for all subway riders. ”
