Union fires back at N.Y.

ALBANY | The New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association is taking legal action against the state for abrupt health insurance cancellations, termination notices and more as the prison strike continues in its 19th day.

Just hours after the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision attempted to work out an amended deal with striking officers by bypassing the union, NYSCOPBA said it was still working toward a more favored legally binding agreement but was filing legal notices to address a number of emerging issues.

“While we must continue to negotiate with the DOCCS on all issues that are most important to you, we will also be taking imminent legal action on multiple fronts,” NYSCOPBA told members midday Friday…
