NEW YORK (PIX11) – New Yorkers will see more platform barriers this year as they commute on the subways.
According to the MTA, almost 20 stations throughout the five boroughs have gotten the yellow barriers installed on the platforms .

The 4-foot-tall gates, which are placed near columns so they align with subway doors, are meant to prevent people from falling or being pushed onto the tracks, according to the MTA.
“We are putting up barriers…I’ve committed the money to make sure that when you’re standing there waiting for your train to come through that you don’t have that deep-rooted fear of someone pushing you onto the tracks,” New York Governor Kathy Hochul said during an interview on PIX on Politics.
