Heavy Rain Collapses Ceiling Of Prestigious Bergen County High School

A portion of the auditorium ceiling at Bergen County Academies in Hackensack collapsed early Saturday morning, April 6, due to heavy rain, city officials said.

At approximately 3 a.m., the Hackensack Fire Department’s 2nd Platoon responded to 200 Hackensack Ave., when janitorial staff reported a ceiling collapse, Capt. Kurt Nemeczek said. The collapse involved sections of skim coating and plaster in the auditorium ceiling—not structural components—and was caused by rainwater leaking through the roof.

Crews secured the utilities and closed off the affected area. The auditorium will remain closed until necessary repairs are completed. A contracting company had reportedly been working in the area in recent days…
