Man Steals Nearly $4K in Smart Thermostats From Home Depot In Southeast, To Spend Years In Jail

Tyrell Reynolds, age 38, of Manhattan, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, April 15, to fourth-degree grand larceny for a brazen retail theft at a Home Depot store in Southeast, Putnam County District Attorney Robert V. Tendy announced on Wednesday, April 16.

The incident happened on Aug. 24, 2024, when sheriff’s deputies were called to the Home Depot on Independent Way after a report of a theft involving smart home thermostats valued at $3,956.61. Upon arrival, deputies reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses.

According to the DA’s Office, Reynolds hid several smart thermostats inside a black bin and attempted to walk out of the store. He was confronted by loss prevention staff but fled before deputies arrived…
