NYC introduces new 25-gallon trash bin in response to residents’ demands

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City Sanitation officials announced the availability of a new, smaller trash bin Thursday in response to residents’ demands.

The city previously made available a 35-gallon container that holds about three kitchen garbage bags and a 45-gallon container, which holds about four kitchen garbage bags. The new official bin will be 25 gallons and will hold two kitchen garbage bags.

“We are proud to be able to offer city residents with even more choices in finding the right waste bin to meet their individual or building’s needs,” said Javier Lojan, acting sanitation commissioner. “It’s no surprise that locking up the ick helps keep our city clean, and helps keep the rats away – and we are already seeing the benefits of the move to containerization.”…
