Disbarred Brooklyn Attorney Convicted for Decade-Long Scheme Involving Theft of 11 Property Deeds

A former Brooklyn attorney, Sanford Solny, has been convicted of stealing deeds to 11 properties, marking yet another scheme preying on the borough’s homeowners. Information provided by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office states that Solny, disbarred and 68 years old, was found guilty on multiple charges, including third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and first-degree scheme to defraud.

“This defendant didn’t just steal homes — he stole stability, equity and the future that these families worked hard to build,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez expressed, condemning Solny’s actions which targeted particularly vulnerable citizens, facing financial distress and those who held earnest hopes in a figure purporting to be a trusted advisor, according to the DA’s office.

From 2012 to 2022, Solny misrepresented the nature of his ‘aid,’ telling homeowners he could orchestrate short sales to avoid foreclosures, but instead he transferred the property titles to entities under his control. This fraudulent enterprise ensnared 15 victims, including working-class individuals—a nurse, a cab driver, and a home health aide—who were deceived into signing over their properties, not understanding that the paperwork passed their hard-earned homes to Solny’s corporations…
