Subway, bus fare increase delayed past August: MTA

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Subway and bus fares will increase by 4% this year, but it won’t be by August as usual.

The MTA’s budget includes a 4% fare hike, as it has every two years, bringing the cost of a single trip to $3. It was originally scheduled to happen in August but will be delayed, MTA Chair Janno Lieber said at a board meeting Wednesday.

“It won’t be in August, but we’re going to initiate the public process and it will happen in all probability sometime later in the year,” Lieber said.

Before the fare change goes into effect, the MTA will hold public hearings, a timeline for which has not been outlined…
