NYC boy fatally shot during water gun fight as accused killer pulled real gun out

A New York City mother says she lost her second son to gun violence after someone shot the teen during a simple water gun fight at the park.

Darrell Harris, 17, was shot in the head and arm around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday near Sheridan Boulevard and East 173rd Street, according to an NYPD spokesperson. He was quickly transported to the nearby Jacobi Hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

“He told me he was going to the park because his friends were having a water gun fight,” Kellie Lewis, Harris’ mother, shared with ABC 7. At the park, they ran into a group engaged in a water gun fight using gel blasters, toy guns that shoot dissolvable gel pellets instead of water, as per an official.

Witnesses report that Darrell asked someone to stop continuously shooting him in the head with the pellets, according to the New York Times. The shooter, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police, drew a real gun and fired before escaping the scene…
