Nearly 1,000 new officers graduated from the NYPD Police Academy yesterday in a ceremony at Madison Square Garden, marking the department’s largest class in almost a decade.
The recruits come from 41 countries and speak 39 languages, reflecting the city’s diversity. Yesterday’s graduation is the largest since 2016 and is seen by officials as a sign of renewed interest in policing.
Mayor Eric Adams congratulated the graduates in a post on X, writing, “To the nearly 1,000 recruits graduating today after six months at the Police Academy: congratulations! I know firsthand that wearing the NYPD uniform is one of the most humbling and meaningful experiences, and I’m confident that all of you are ready to protect and serve as you make a real difference in our city.”…
