$117K Elder Scam Targeting East Rockaway Woman Leads To Brooklyn Man’s Arrest: Police

According to detectives, the victim received a computer pop-up alert claiming her device had been compromised on Wednesday, Oct. 1. She called the number displayed and was instructed to withdraw her money to keep it safe. Between Oct. 1 and Oct. 3, she withdrew a total of $117,000, which she handed over to several men she did not know.

On Monday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m., the woman realized she was being scammed and contacted police, investigators said. Following an extensive investigation, officers located 46-year-old Jinqin Jiang of 49th Street in Brooklyn. After a brief struggle, Jiang was placed into custody in East Rockaway.

Jiang is charged with Attempted Grand Larceny 3rd Degree and Resisting Arrest. He was released on an appearance ticket, police said…
