Commuters are divided following the MTA’s recent news of a fare increase, which is set to take effect in January.
The MTA Board announced on September 30 that it had voted to approve a toll and fare increase, with most changes taking effect in January 2026, in alignment with its system-wide rollout of tap-to-pay technology. MTA Fare increases are common, with most rollouts occurring every two years. The last fare increase was in 2023.
