Here’s why NYC public and Catholic schools are closed on Tuesday

New York City students in both public and Catholic schools won’t be heading to class on Tuesday as schools are closed for a holiday.

All students in New York City will have off on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day, according to school calendars for New York City public schools and Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New York.

Veterans Day is set aside each year to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the military — in wartime or peacetime, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. It’s intended to thank living veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served — not only those who died — have sacrificed and done their duty…
