Officer Carmelo Caramanna was directing traffic on Fairfield Road because a crash had shut down Route 46 West when a truck driver approached him and reported that a man in a security-type uniform had brandished a handgun just before 6:10 a.m., Fairfield Officer Stacy Chiarolanza said.
Officer Caramanna broadcast the vehicle description and license plate to other officers who were in the area directing traffic, police said. A short time later, Corporal James High located the vehicle exiting from the Dey Overpass onto Route 46 West, police said.
A motor vehicle stop was conducted, and police said the driver, identified as Averie Goden, 29, of Jersey City, was wearing a security uniform and armed with a handgun secured in a holster. Goden was placed in handcuffs and disarmed while officers investigated, police said…
