Mamdani defends request for resignations from City Hall employees

NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on Thursday defended his decision to ask some City Hall employees for their resignations when he gets into office on Jan. 1.

At least 179 staffers were told to resign, with the majority hired by outgoing Mayor Eric Adams, according to The New York Times.

“My message to each and every New Yorker is that we will make our assessments on the basis of the work that is done, not on the basis of who appoints people, and that is an assessment that we will apply to the entirety of city government,” Mamdani said.
