New York City commuters are very familiar with the phrase “a fare is required to ride,” and now, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) might be rolling out a new tactic to make sure you’re paying your fare.
Under the leadership of MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber, people will no longer be able to hop on the buses for free, and this major shift is coming to the Select Bus Service.
On Tuesday, Dec. 2, Lieber shared that once the MetroCard officially retires at the end of December and OMNY becomes the only payment system, the MTA will implement a “European-style” fare enforcement model across the bus systems…
