There’s nothing we appreciate quite like a well-thought-out plan.
If we’re already brainstorming PTO for the new year, we should have the 2026 federal holidays at hand, no? Our calendars would be incomplete without ’em.
While yes, it’s still a bit early to be daydreaming about a time off — especially considering some of us are already off during this awkward time between Christmas and New Year’s — we can’t help but think ahead. If you’ve just nabbed a new planner from your local stationary store, here’s what to know.
2026 Federal holidays to jot down
Needless to say, we’re kickstarting time off in 2026 immediately on Thursday, New Year’s Day. (We hope you’re planning on ordering Chinese takeout and watching The Honeymooners and The Twilight Zone marathons.) Here’s what you need to know for the 12 months ahead:
- New Year’s Day: Thursday, January 1st
- Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday: Monday, January 19th
- Washington’s Birthday (Presidents’ Day): Monday, February 16th
- Memorial Day: Monday, May 25th
- Juneteenth National Independence Day: Friday, June 19th
- Independence Day: Friday, July 3rd (Observed, as July 4th is a Saturday)
- Labor Day: Monday, September 7th
- Columbus Day (Indigenous Peoples’ Day): Monday, October 12th
- Veterans Day: Wednesday, November 11th
- Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, November 26th
- Christmas Day: Friday, December 25th
Between this and our handy, dandy PTO guide, you’re sure to snag more than a few days away from the office. The next question is: where are you going to go?…
