‘Welcoming 2026 with immense gratitude’: Staten Island celebrates first babies of the year

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The first babies born on Staten Island in 2026 were welcomed into the world just minutes apart.

At 2:27 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, Sahar Irfan and Usman Janjua of Dubai welcomed their first child, Muhammad Usman, at Richmond University Medical Center.

“We are welcoming 2026 with immense gratitude as we celebrate the birth of our first-born son, Muhammad Usman,” Irfan said. “Special thanks to Dr. Jeanette Voice and her entire staff for their exceptional care and support in making my delivery the easiest.”…
