N.J. mom warned owners windows were unsafe months before her toddler fell 20 stories, lawsuit says

The mother of a toddler who fell 20 stories to his death from an apartment in Newark has sued the building’s owners, claiming they routinely replaced broken windows with thin layers of Plexiglas.

The woman was living with her mother and three children, ages 1, 2 and 5, in an apartment in the Elizabeth Towers on Elizabeth Avenue when the accident occurred on Nov. 15.

“Rather than normal glass, the windows were made of thin Plexiglas sheets. Some of these thin Plexiglas windows … were shoddily and dangerously installed,” according to the lawsuit filed Dec. 23 in Superior Court of Essex County…
