First Baby Of 2026 Arrives At Midnight In Harlem

The first baby born in New York City in 2026 made her entrance right at the stroke of midnight in Harlem, marking a joyful start to the new year for one local family and hospital staff alike. According to NYC Health + Hospitals, the baby girl was delivered at Harlem Hospital at exactly 12 a.m. on Jan. 1, officially becoming the city’s first newborn of the year.

Born to parents Oumy and Amadou Niang, the baby weighed 7 pounds, 2.8 ounces and measured 21.26 inches long, AM NY reports. She is the couple’s fifth child and the fourth they have welcomed at Harlem Hospital. Both mother and baby were reported to be healthy and doing well following the delivery.

Hospitals across the city soon followed with their own first arrivals of 2026, as New Year’s morning brought a wave of newborns across multiple boroughs. At NYU Langone, a baby boy named Liam was born at 12:56 a.m. to parents Julieta and David, residents of Howard Beach in Queens. Liam weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and hospital officials said the family was doing well.
