NYC going after big landlords with violations

JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens (PIX11) — Mayor Zohran Mamdani is putting big landlords on notice– fix your buildings or face millions of dollars in fines and perhaps lose your property.

Surrounded by neighbors who say they have gone months at a time with no heat or hot water, persistent mold, insect issues, and broken elevators, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a large settlement with A&E Real Estate.

It requires the landlord to correct 4,000 violations across 14 buildings, to pay a $2.1 million fine, and to stop harassing tenants.

“If your landlord does not responsibly steward your home, the city government will step in,” Mamdani warned. “City government has real power to protect millions of tenants across the city, and let today be evidence that we are not afraid to use it.”…
