Mother of mentally ill man shot by NYPD demands justice and dropped charges

NEW YORK CITY (PIX 11) — A Queens mother is demanding charges be dropped against her son, Jabez Chakraborty who suffers from mental illness, after the NYPD shot him during a confrontation inside their home.

“Jabez was safe in our home until the NYPD arrived,” said Juli Chakraborty, mother of Jabez. “Now Jabez is recovering from multiple surgeries and gunshots, handcuffed to the hospital bed.”

Juli was overwhelmed with grief, trying to piece together how a call for help on January 26th ended with an NYPD officer shooting her 22-year-old son, who suffers from schizophrenia.
