Arsonist Who Tried Killing Spiders With PA Fire Burned Clothes In East Rutherford Hotel: Cops

Sean P. McDermott, with recent addresses in Tobyhanna, PA and East Moriches, NY, put his clothes ina. pot on an electric stove and turned it on, then left the property at the Residence Inn in East Rutherford at 10:35 a.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 25, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

Hotel staff detected the odor of burning, entered the room, and shut off the stove before the clothing fully ignited, Musella said. Detectives determined that McDermott fled toward New York City when he left the hotel.

Later that day, on Feb. 25, McDermott was found in Manhattan by the NYPD and placed under arrest, officials said. He remains in the custody of New York State authorities pending extradition to Bergen County…
