Man Sentenced After Embezzling $1.6M from NJ Car Dealerships

An employee at high-end car dealerships in New Jersey is headed to prison for tax fraud.

Jooyeong Lee of Westbury, NY, previously pleaded guilty in Newark federal court to a charge of filing a false federal income tax return. Earlier this week, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

According to federal authorities, from approximately 2015 through 2021, Lee embezzled over $1.6 million from various high-end car dealerships in New Jersey where he worked. When he filed his tax returns, he failed to report or pay tax on the funds as income.
