NYPD: Off-duty DSNY employee charged with firearm possession on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An off-duty Sanitation Department employee was arrested Thursday night on Staten Island and charged with criminal possession of a firearm, according to the NYPD.

James Asnes, 35, was taken into custody around 7:45 p.m. within the confines of the 123rd Precinct, the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information wrote in a statement.

In addition to the charge of firearm possession, Asnes was charged with two counts of menacing, criminal possession of a controlled substance, violation of local law and having a dirty or covered license plate, the police statement said…
