Brooklyn residents push for traffic safety as development grows

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — New housing, restaurants and businesses continue to transform parts of Brooklyn’s waterfront. Some residents want to see the neighborhood’s infrastructure keep pace.

In the Columbia Street Waterfront area, residents are raising concerns about safety at a busy intersection that they say has become increasingly dangerous.

Standing on the corner of Columbia and Woodhull streets, Laurie Torres watches cars speed through the crossing.

“If it’s green, God help us, they fly through,” Torres said. “There isn’t a stop sign here.”…
