An off-duty NYPD cop shot and gravely wounded a man suspected of stealing his wife’s car in the Bronx late Monday, law enforcement sources said.
The cop — who is assigned to the Public Security Section under the department’s Intelligence Bureau and is often stationed at Gracie Mansion — opened fire around 9:10 p.m. on West 231st Street near Albany Crescent in Kingsbridge, hitting the 30-year-old victim in the head, the sources said.
The ailing man went by private means to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, according to police.
