The city Department of Transportation announced Thursday it will distribute free bike helmets and lights to New Yorkers at more than a dozen events across the city throughout the rest of spring.
There will be giveaway events in every borough over the course of April, May and June, with helmets available for residents of all ages and officials there to ensure they fit properly.
“A safe bike ride is a good bike ride,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani said in a statement. “Safe cycling starts with the right gear, like a well-fit helmet and bike light, and I’m excited to partner with elected officials across New York City to make sure cyclists of all ages have the tools and knowledge they need to move safely through our streets.”…
