Train service suspended after highway ‘structural issue’ drops concrete and steel on tracks in Cranston

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Amtrak suspended service between New York and Boston on Friday after the train tracks running through Cranston were forced to close by an “apparent structural issue.”

Cranston Police Chief Col. Michael Winquist told 12 News a piece of a highway on-ramp from Route 10 North to Interstate 95 North, which is currently under construction, “became detached” and landed on the railroad tracks.

First responders from Cranston and Providence and Rhode Island State Police responded to the initial scene, as did officials from Amtrak and Rhode Island Energy…
