More than 100 guinea pigs were rescued from an Upstate New York home after animal rescuers were alerted to a woman giving away the pets for free outside a discount grocery store.
The Buffalo Guinea Pig Mafia Rescue, Western New York’s only guinea pig rescue, said it was contacted June 11 after a woman was seen outside a Price Rite supermarket in Utica giving away guinea pigs, according to a Facebook post. After speaking with store employees, the woman said she had dozens more guinea pigs at home that needed to be removed immediately.
With Utica being three hours away from the Buffalo rescue, the recovery turned into a collaborative effort.
