Claims Buffalo Police Rewarded Singing Cops, Punished Him
A Buffalo Police detective known nationally for his military-themed social media persona has filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Buffalo alleging department leadership repeatedly denied him promotions while favoring other officers and targeting him because of his online content.
Detective Richard Hy, widely known through his “Angry Cops” social media channels, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court earlier this week. The complaint accuses city officials of discrimination and claims he was subjected to unequal treatment throughout his career despite achieving high scores on promotional examinations.
At the center of the lawsuit is Hy’s assertion that he was repeatedly passed over for advancement while other officers with lower rankings received promotions ahead of him.
