Stitch Buffalo’s Community Fabric Project Upcycles Unwanted Jeans into Reimagined, Wearable Art.

Can you imagine how many pairs of used and unwanted jeans end up in the trash bin? Fortunately, many times people opt to donate their old jeans to places like Goodwill. But even then, there are so many jeans that they tend to accumulate. Yes, many are turned around and resold at discount prices, but still lots end up sitting around in piles.

Recently, Stitch Buffalo teamed up with Goodwill of WNY to take some of those piles of jeans off their hands. The next step is for Stitch Buffalo to host a series of community workshops, where staff, artisans, and volunteers will have a chance to upcycle the denim fabric into one piece of fabric that can then be transformed into something entirely different, such as reimagined, wearable art.

Each year, approximately 500 million pairs of jeans are thrown away and end up in landfills worldwide…
