Historic Seneca Chief returns to Canalside after statewide voyage

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Dozens filled Canalside Saturday welcoming the historic replica Erie Canal boat ‘Seneca Chief’ back to Buffalo’s waterfront, marking its ceremonial homecoming after a statewide journey.

“The Erie Canal is not just a story of growth and progress but one that calls on us to reflect more thoughtfully on our history, recognizing the communities and cultures that existed here long before the canal was built,” M&T Bank’s Native American Employee Group president Shaun Wilson said.
