BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The intersection of Wehrle Drive and Union Road was closed Monday morning after a vehicle crashed into the Abbey Square building.
The Amherst bar, which permanently closed last spring, caught fire as a result of the crash. Amherst Police and Snyder Fire units, as well as the Williamsville Fire Department, reported to the intersection, which remains closed. According to WFD, the initial call came just after 3 a.m. Monday morning and the fire was classified as two-alarm, burning through the roof.
According to Amherst Police, the vehicle remains stuck inside the building, on its side with the roof collapsed. Police are waiting on the Thruway authority to arrive with equipment to remove the car. The status of the driver has not been confirmed…
