Severe thunderstorms possible across upstate New York. See timing

Parts of western and central New York are under a risk for severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening.

Here’s what to know about the potential for strong storms, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo:

Risk for severe thunderstorms

A weak cold front is expected to move in from the northwest Thursday, bringing showers and scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. A few storms could become strong to severe, especially along lake breeze boundaries inland from lakes Erie and Ontario, the Weather Service said.

The risk includes much of western and central New York, including the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Watertown areas and surrounding counties…
