Irish man sentenced to 14 years in prison for killing WNY woman in Budapest

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An Irish citizen was sentenced to 14 years in prison Thursday for killing a Western New York native in Budapest, Hungary in 2024.

Mackenzie Michalski, 31 at the time of her death, was beaten and strangled by a 37-year-old man from Ireland. She was last seen dancing with the man at a nightclub on Nov. 5, 2024 before leaving for his apartment. The man admitted to police that he killed Michalski, a Fredonia native, while the two were intimate but said it was an accident. He was detained on Nov. 7.

A court in Budapest on Thursday found the man guilty of murder. The year and a half he has already spent behind bars will count towards his sentence.
