Buffalo installs barriers on Chippewa as council member pushes for 21+ entertainment district proposal

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The City of Buffalo has installed new barriers along West Chippewa Street as officials consider additional measures to address safety concerns in the Chippewa Entertainment District after a string of fights and shootings.

The barriers are in place on West Chippewa between Delaware Avenue and Franklin Street. Fillmore District Common Council Member Mitch Nowakowski said the goal is to better manage traffic and pedestrian flow during peak nightlife hours.

Nowakowski said he met with Buffalo Police and reviewed a map showing where large groups of young people have been gathering in nearby parking lots before moving into the entertainment district…
