BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An inmate at Collins Correctional Facility was killed on Tuesday night following an altercation with another inmate, state police said.
State police were about the death around 11 p.m. Tuesday. A preliminary investigation found that an inmate attacked Jose R. Aponte, 34, in a residential rehabilitation unit. Aponte was taken to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville and was pronounced dead.
Aponte arrived at Collins in February after he was convicted of an attempted burglary charge in New York City, according to state records. He was scheduled for a parole hearing in September 2027…
