BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mike MacDonald spent 19 years of his life coming to work at Canisius College on Main Street. He spent nine of those years as head coach of the Golden Griffins, never making the NCAA Tournament. It was unlikely he’d ever have the chance to return as a Division I head coach.
Over the last 20 years, he’s re-climbed the ladder, and on Saturday, he returned to the Koessler Center as head coach of the rival St. Bonaventure Bonnies. Promptly, he handed his former employer a first-round knockout. At halftime, it was 43-14. The final score, 88-49.
The margin of defeat is tied for the widest in the rivalry’s 174-game history…
