NFTA eyeing metro expansion to UB North

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The NFTA-Metro is proposing an expansion of high-quality transit from University Station, going through the towns of Amherst and Tonawanda, to the UB North Campus and I-990.

Holding a drop-in listening session on Thursday to inform the public of what the project would look like and some of its benefits.

“In general, it’s just an access issue. People feel like they don’t have an easy way to get around that’s safe, affordable and convenient,” said project manager Jeffery Amplement.

The metro transit expansion project keeps the existing line from KeyBank Center to University Station on the UB South Campus.

From there it will run along Niagara Falls Boulevard, down Maple and Sweet Home Roads to the UB North Campus, all the way through to the John James Audubon Parkway and I-990.

“Obviously 30,000 students at the UB North Campus. It’s a significant economic opportunity to connect all these major economic generators,” Amplement continued.

The route will feature 10 new stops, allowing travelers to go from University Station to the UB North Campus in 15 minutes. Giving everyone more frequent and reliable service and access to jobs – plus events outside or in Buffalo.
