Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – United Auto Workers members are getting a significant check as part of the recent agreement between the union and General Motors. GM announced the release of profit sharing checks totaling $12,250 for workers, which should arrive next month.
UAW Region 9 President Ray Jensen says it’s great not just for those members.
“It’s going to be great for our local communities, because those members will be spending that money in our communities,” said Jensen on Tuesday in an interview with WBEN.
Jensen says the formula has changed from years past.
“I believe they changed the formula back in 2015. The workers have seen substantial checks year-over-year, and their profits keep increasing. So the workers pocket checks,” Jensen said.
Jensen calls these raises life-changing for GM workers.
“Some of our members are going to be receiving by the end of this agreement a 150% raise. Some of our members were working two and three jobs just to get by. Now they can just work one job and be able to have a work life balance, be able to spend time with their family, and just be able to live a good middle class life,” Jensen noted.
