Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – Feb. 1 marks the beginning of Black History Month, and there’s plenty to be excited about as the calendar changes for those at the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor.
The celebration actually started before February for the Heritage Corridor as they just made their first property acquisition at 136 Broadway in Buffalo, which will serve as a temporary HQ before a permanent home is built.
“The ultimate goal is to transform the space into a visitors hub,” says Terry Alford, Executive Director for the Heritage Corridor. “The visitors hub will act as the first stop for visitors who are coming into Buffalo specifically to visit the Corridor and its four cultural anchors.”
Those anchors consist of the Colored Musicians Club & Jazz Museum, the Michigan Street Baptist Church, the Nash House Museum, and the WUFO Black History Radio Collective.
“We’re quite excited with this first acquisition because it really is exemplary of the progress that we continue to make in this corridor on the East Side of Buffalo.” says Alford.
