Town of Hamburg police announced an investigation is underway after a woman was shot and killed by an officer on Friday.
Police said around 10:30 a.m. Friday officers responded to the report of a burglary in progress on Willet Road. Responding officers received a description of a subject who committed the alleged burglary from the homeowner on the scene.
According to police, the subject was tracked to a residence on McKinley Parkway and officers found an open door to that residence. Police said officers announced themselves, made entry to clear the house, and encountered a woman in the house. An altercation ensued and the officer discharged their weapon, striking the woman. Officers immediately rendered aid and EMS was notified and responded.
Town of Hamburg police Captain Todd Ehret said despite all efforts the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and Hamburg police are being assisted by New York State police and the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
