‘Empower the arts’: Buffalo Fashion Week Gala to benefit Buffalo art market

Buffalo Fashion Week organizers are gearing up for the largest fashion gala in Western New York!

“Our goal is to not only raise awareness for fashion in the Buffalo market, but also raise money for scholarships,” said executive director Khalil Carr.

Creative director, Kimori Jamison, says the theme is Retrofuturism.

“Retrofuturism is a futuristic twist,” he said. “We decided on colors like silver, gray, black, and chrome.”

The gala setup is overseen by Estherlin Barrientos. She says it takes a dedicated team to make it all happen.

“This is very important to me because coming from an immigrant family and having a minority background, not a lot of people have an opportunity like this to pursue their dreams,” she said. “The team and I are trying to create opportunities for people that look like myself.”

Buffalo Fashion Week organizers say the gala is crucial to revitalizing the Queen City’s art market.

“It’s lacking in fashion. It’s lacking in music. It’s lacking in film,” said Carr. “I keep on saying my commitment to Buffalo is to empower the arts.”
