Terrance Boyd, a 33-year-old Buffalo resident, has been sentenced to 16 years to life in prison by State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek. Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced the sentencing, identifying Boyd as a persistent violent felony offender. Boyd’s charges originated from an incident in August 2021, where he was pulled over by Buffalo Police due to a missing front license plate.
During the stop, police noticed Boyd passing a bag to a backseat passenger. The bag was later found to contain an illegal, loaded handgun. DNA analysis subsequently linked Boyd to the weapon, strengthening the case against him.
In October 2023, after a four-day trial and two hours of deliberation, a jury convicted Boyd of one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class ‘C’ violent felony. This was the sole charge in the indictment against him.
District Attorney Flynn acknowledged the work of Officers Lyana Luciano and Mohammad Ibrahim from the Buffalo Police Department in the investigation. Assistant District Attorney Samantha N. King of the Narcotics/Intelligence Bureau and Assistant District Attorney John P. Gerken, Jr. of the Homicide Bureau prosecuted the case.
