Davante Thompson, a Buffalo resident, has been convicted of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Assault in the First Degree, as reported by Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn. The jury reached the verdict after a trial lasting nearly three days and 2 ½ hours of deliberation. The charges are related to an incident on August 26, 2021, when Thompson attacked a family member in their shared home.

The victim, who sustained multiple stab wounds to her face and body, managed to flee to another family member’s room. Thompson then tried to harm a second family member by stabbing her in the neck and body. A third family member intervened to prevent further harm. Buffalo Police officers arrested Thompson shortly after the incident.

Both victims were taken to ECMC for treatment. One victim had multiple severe lacerations, which required stitches and led to reduced range of motion and nerve damage. Thompson was denied bail after his arrest and remains in custody.

Thompson could receive a maximum sentence of 40 years for his second violent felony. His sentencing is set for Wednesday, March 27, 2024, before State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges.
