Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) – It was fun while it lasted, but anyone who has lived in Buffalo and Western New York will know, spring weather just won’t last in February.
The spring fling is coming to an end as colder air and some snow is in the forecast for the upcoming week.
In the wake of a cold front, cooler and generally dry weather will prevail through Monday before an approaching storm system brings the northern edge of snow into portions of the area for Monday night and Tuesday morning, forecasters at the National Weather Service in Buffalo say. Closer to normal temperatures and periodic chances of snow and rain showers can then be expected for the remainder of the upcoming week.
“Today, Sunday, we’re going to see highs only in the upper 30’s,” NWS meteorologist Heather Kenyon tells WBEN.
A low pressure system will approach the region Monday, accompanied by snow across the southern most portion of Western New York. This area of snow will just brush by our Southern Tier, with southern Cattaraugus and Allegany counties standing the best chance for accumulations of more than 2 inches. There is, however, some uncertainty with this frontal system and accumulations could be greater depending on its track.
