Governor Kathy Hochul has announced progress in the Kensington Expressway Project. This project aims to reconnect East Buffalo neighborhoods that have been separated for years. It will also add green spaces to the community. The Federal Government has given its approval, marking the end of a thorough environmental review process. This allows the project to move forward.
The Federal Highway Administration has issued a ‘Finding of No Significant Impact.’ This ends the formal environmental assessment process. It allows the New York State Department of Transportation to move to the final design stages. Construction is expected to start by fall 2024. Governor Hochul expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and its importance to the East Buffalo community.
Governor Hochul has also instructed the State Department of Transportation to start a study this year. The study will look at potential improvements to further reconnect the community. This includes areas up to the Scajaquada Expressway and Delaware Park, and a new plan for Humboldt Parkway. This initiative follows many public engagements in preparation for this project.
