What are the best and worst cities to retire in the U.S.? These NY cities made the list

While New York isn’t known to have the best weather year-round, its plethora of museums and music venues might make up for it because four New York cities — including two upstate — have been named some of the best and worst places to retire, according to a new study released by WalletHub .

Buffalo, Rochester, New York City and Yonkers made the list, which compared more than 180 cities across 45 key metrics like cost of living, availability of activities and quality of health care.

“It’s important to choose wisely even when picking where to retire, as many retirees are on a fixed income,” WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo says. “As a result, the best cities for retired people are those that minimize taxes and expenses, as well as have good opportunities for retirees to continue paid work for extra income, if they choose to do so.”

Here’s how New York cities fared.

Where Buffalo stands

Buffalo ranked as No. 115 with a total score of 46.13. According to the study, the Queen City isn’t known for it’s “mild weather,” as it’s been ranked for having some of the worst. The only city with a higher bad weather ranking is Juneau, Alaska.
